Endocrine Society and Hormone Foundation Call for Increased Research into Bone Health and Osteoporosis
Chevy Chase, MD; October 20, 2004 - The Endocrine Society and its patient education affiliate, The Hormone Foundation, today called for more research into osteoporosis and low bone mass. The increase in research, note the two organizations, could lead to enhanced understanding of the causes of and treatments for these debilitating conditions. These announcements follow the release of a report from the U.S. Surgeon General, which warns that by 2020 one in two Americans over the age of 50 will be at risk for a fracture from osteoporosis or low bone mass. Chevy Chase, MD; June 4, 2004 - The Endocrine Society and its patient education affiliate, The Hormone Foundation, applaud the United States House of Representatives for passing the Anabolic Steroid Control Act of 2004. This critical legislation supports extensive efforts by The Endocrine Society and The Hormone Foundation to address the potential dangers posed by the use and abuse of anabolic steroids and steroid precursors, such as androstenedione, or "andro." The House legislation, which was passed on Thursday, June 3 in a vote of 408 to 3, clearly demonstrates the desire of congressional leaders to protect the nation's athletes, adolescents and children from the risks posed by steroid precursors. The Endocrine Society and The Hormone Foundation Support FDA's Ban on Sports Supplement "Andro"
Chevy Chase, MD; March 12, 2004 - The Endocrine Society and its patient education affiliate, The Hormone Foundation, support the recent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ban on the sale of androstenedione, a steroid precursor commonly known as "andro." Hormone Foundation Endorses FDA Public Information Campaign for Women on Menopause and Hormones
Washington, DC; September 9, 2003 - The Hormone Foundation joined over 20 patient and physician organizations today in support of the Food and Drug Administration's Office of Women's Health (OWH FDA) launch of their nationwide Menopausal Hormone Therapy Information Campaign. The OWH FDA collaborated with other Department of Health and Human Services agencies and many medical and patient organizations to produce information to help women make informed decisions regarding their health and the use of hormone therapy. Experts Urge Women To Protect Themselves From Postmenopausal Health Risks
Philadelphia, PA; June 20, 2003 - Millions of postmenopausal women are at increased risk for osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and other health conditions, according to a panel of experts who spoke at a Hormone Foundation media roundtable today. The physicians met to discuss women's health options in light of recent studies, including the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study, that have shown that estrogen/progestin therapy increases the risks of blood clots, stroke and heart attacks, breast cancer and dementia in postmenopausal women.
